Interview with Miles Morgan

Jack and John welcome the always entertaining Miles Morgan.  Listen in as we talk about Miles experience and what inspires him to create the images he does.

Miles Bio:

“We” are a small group of amateur Fine Art Landscape Photographers located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest; Portland, Oregon to be more precise. By “we”, I mean “me”, and by small, I mean a group of 1. And when I say “Photographer”, what I really mean is that I’m actually an airline pilot who occasionally goes out and takes a few snapshots hoping that something pretty will get in the way of my lens.

My father, Hank Morgan, is a successful photojournalist, so I’ve always had cameras close by, but I never took the time to learn much about them.  It wasn’t until April, 2009, that I decided that I wanted to try my hand at landscape photography. Very quickly I became hooked and have been trying hard to hone my skills both in the field and in Photoshop to produce images that are pleasing. My father used his photography to capture my most embarrassing moments as you can see.   Now, as a Dad myself, I’m looking forward to doing the same thing to my daughter!

Photography Ideas during Quarantine

While Jack is out on sabbatical, I wanted to put out a few ideas to hopefully inspire or motivate folks to dive in to a photo related topic to keep busy and grow your artistic ability.  In spite of the difficult times right now, don’t lose sight of your artistry and how that can enliven yourself or others through sharing.  It’s a great time to dive in to those projects that you’ve been putting off finishing (or starting)….so get to it!

Plus, here’s the link to the magnetic filter system that I’m super excited about and currently evaluating from H&Y filters out of the UK.  Available from B&H and Adorama as well.  Check out their site HERE

Stay tuned for more episodes coming very soon!

Interview with David Cobb

Jack & John welcome David Cobb to the podcast.  David is an incredible photographer based in the Pacific Northwest and who has travelled extensively throughout the country as well as internationally. Listen in as Jack and John talk about a wide variety of topics with David in this newest episode.

Davids Bio

Workshop leader David M. Cobb is a nature and wildlife photographer who has hiked and photographed throughout the world. A member of NANPA, and the PPA, he is a regular contributor to a variety of gardening, lifestyle, nature, and travel publications as well as calendars, cards, books, brochures, and other printed materials.

As a long-distance hiker, I have sharpened my photographic perspective over the years on the Pacific Crest Trail, the Continental Divide, the Canadian Divide and most recently walking across Iceland. After years of capturing images along the trail and becoming more and more passionate about the art of photography, I took the leap and “quit my day job” to devote myself full time to my photographic work.

Now as I photograph throughout the US and around the world, I am continually awed by the broad spectrum of nature’s offerings—from a delicate heliconia flower on the exotic island of Roratonga to the sweeping Patagonian landscape. My particular fondness for the Pacific Northwest is reflected in my local outdoor shots. My goal is to capture the wonders I see in nature for the enjoyment of all those with an eye for the extraordinary.

I currently have two published books on Japanese gardens; Quiet Beauty: Japanese Gardens of North America, Visionary Landscapes. My work has shown at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington D.C., the Kew Botanical Gardens in London, U.K., the Burke Museum in Seattle, and the University of Oregon.

Ellens Bio

I’m a freelance photographer and writer who specializes in expressive photography. I earned a Ph.D. in  clinical psychology and while practicing  as a psychologist, began working part-time in photography co-leading workshops, writing articles, editing and authoring books and gradually evolved into a full time professional photographer in the mid 1990’s.

My images, based on nature, are sometimes realistic and sometimes abstract but always designed to elicit emotional reactions from the viewer. My goal is to go beyond the ordinary in ways that hopefully stimulate others to pause and appreciate some of the beauty and wonder of our earth in a way that balances some of the stress of everyday life. My images are included in collections in several countries and my photos have been showcased in galleries, used in numerous publications (including Sierra Club’s “Mother Earth” and Inner Reflections calendars), as well as stock.  I’ve also had winning and commended images in international contests including BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Windland Rice Nature’s Best Competitions.
